Newington Green Now & Then is a new arts and heritage project for young people aged 13 – 25 managed by Mildmay Community Partnership. MCP is a community regeneration organisation and works primarily in the ward of Mildmay, in the London Borough of Islington. The project celebrates the lively history of Newington Green around the 17th and 18th century and incorporates contemporary life on the Green and young peoples' experiences of the area today.

Young people will work alongside professional artists, exploring the vibrant people and places of Newington Green through visiting local history archives, libraries, The Geffrye Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Women's Library, sound archives and more...

The free, 10 week courses run from autumn 2008 and again in January 2009 and participants will be able to complete a Bronze Level Arts Award.

The project will culminate in a final public exhibition of all the work produced, taking place at the end of May 2009. The work will also be permanently stored and made accessible for future generations through Islington and Hackney local archives.

If you have good local knowledge, any stories or pictures of the area and would like to volunteer some time, please also get in touch.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the project is organised by Mildmay Community Partnership. MCP also manages the Mayville Community Centre and other community projects such as Football4estates, Mayville Community Garden Project and Mildmay Table Tennis Club.
